Admirals JFC held their fourth annual football tournament at the
weekend kindly sponsored by Red Brick Estate Agents. Despite the
awful weather conditions, braved by over 200 teams, they were still
capable of providing an excellent weekends entertainment. All the
players and supporters must be commended for this.
The usual highs and lows of tournament football gave the weekend its
customary buzz and excitement, as the teams from all over the
midlands fought for the title of winners.
Saturday was the turn of the even numbered age groups, from the
under 8’s to the under 16’s.
Admirals two U’8 teams did well in their first competition, but the
final stage just eluded them. Brinklow and Rugby Town Owls contested
a very well fought final with Brinklow running out 2-0 winners.
The under 10’s and 12’s from Admirals played exceptional football
and again almost made the last four.
The U’10s section was finally won by Bilton Ajax with a 1-0 defeat
of Alveston.
Alveston U’12s went one better than their U’10’s with a nervous
sudden death penalty shoot out win against a spirited Wythall
Juniors.
Admirals U’10s & U’12s both put up a very good fight playing
exceptional football but the semi-final stages eluded them going out
in the quarter-finals.
The girls under 12 and 14 age groups were a very good advert for the
ladies game as they showed that both boys and girls can play serious
competitive football in good spirit.
Both trophies going out of the area to Birmingham. Marston Green’s
defeat of Knowle 2-1 in the U’12 section and Solihull edging out
Kingsthorpe, of Northampton, on penalties for the title of winners
of the U’14 age group.
On Sunday the under 7 section was non-competitive, of which many
were playing for their very first time, and were not to be overawed
by the occasion as they shone and made their parents and managers
alike very proud.
The U’15 boys was another chance to see some fine football, with
Rugby Town providing only winners, as the honours were even
throughout the final match only to see heartache in sudden death
penalties to ultimately separate the sides.
The girls final of the same age was also a single club affair, this
time the turn of Redmoor of Hinckley. Redmoor A the eventual
winners.
As the rain lashed down in the afternoon, it was the turn of the
U’9s, U’11s and U’13s to bear the grunt of the weathers temper. With
the pitches turning from grass to bog mire, they all performed to
exceptional standards in atrocious conditions.
Each of these being very close games, Brinklow U’9s taking the
trophy home with penalties the decider, as did Balsall & Berkswell
U’11s. Millpool of Solihull had a happy return home running out 1-0
winners over Leamington Juniors.
For every team that entered the tournament Admirals JFC will be
donating to the Warwickshire Community Childrens Nursing Team. For

and closing down, and to Newbold Rugby Football Club for allowing
